Tarot Journeling

Do you read your own cards?  If you do, do you journal about what you see?  If not, you may be missing a golden opportunity to experience some much-needed healing or the chance to avoid making old mistakes over and over again.

Like many of you, I try to take a daily 3-card draw, to see what energies are around me, or to seek out possible solutions to problems I might be experiencing. I admit I can’t do this every day but, when I do have the time, I do it for at least 3 days in a row, and record what I see in a journal.

I try to lay out my cards before I have begun any activity for the day that may affect the outcome of the deal, ideally while I am enjoying my early morning tea.  I shuffle the cards well, and draw three, which I leave out for the duration of the day.  I do not assign any meanings to the position of the cards, but rather try to see how the three cards may relate to each other to form a message.  I try not to draw any immediate conclusions from what I see, preferring to discover the message of the cards as the day progresses.  At the end of the day, hopefully while I am enjoying a late afternoon glass of wine, I record a short entry in my journal. Through the course of the week, I look for patterns.  Have I been seeing an abundance of pentacles?  Court cards?  How many cards from the Major Arcana — indicating some major happenings are taking place?

If any card repeats during these three days or so, I consider the message it delivers to be very strong.  Any life theme which may be represented by repetitive cards needs careful examination.  Sometimes, the message is not immediately clear.  By keeping a tarot journal, you can refer back to these readings at a later date.  This is especially important if the card pattern seems to repeat, again, in the future.
